St. Louis School offers students from pre-school through sixth grade the opportunity to celebrate their faith everyday while developing their academic skills.  St. Louis School provides a wide variety of opportunities for students through a curriculum filled with many enrichment activities which include music and art programs as well as athletics.

dot Peggy Schoenfuss – Peggy is the Superintendent of St. Louis School.  Ms. Schoenfuss has 12 years of educational experience as a teacher and administrator in the Diocese of La Crosse.  In the nine years as an administrator, Ms. Schoenfuss has become very involved in Catholic education and the pursuit to see Catholic schools grow.  Ms. Schoenfuss and her husband, Mark and their three boys (Jacob, 8, Brian, 5 and Matthew 2) live in the Rice Lake area.   She is a product of Catholic education by attending St. Joseph School in Stratford, WI in her youth.  She also returned to that school for seven years as principal to see it grow and flourish in Catholic teaching.  Schoenfuss received her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point and her Master of Arts Degree in Educational Leadership from Marian Catholic College of Fond du Lac.

dot Ashley Sukanen -  This is Ashley’s second year teaching fifth and sixth grade at St. Louis School.   Ashley is honored to provide hands-on learning, growth, and fun to her students.  Prior to teaching at St. Louis School, Ashley graduated from Northland College and substitute taught in Ashland for 2 years in addition to working for the YWCA Ashland after school program.   Her hobbies include gardening and reading.  Ashley resides in Ashland with her two children; Greg—1st grade and Bridget—four years old.  “I am happy to say that the staff and students here are amazing!   Thank you to everyone who supports our school and I look forward to a great school year.“


dot Colleen Greene -  Colleen has been teaching third and fourth grades at St. Louis School for 25 years.  She attended the “Old St. Louis School” which was a two story frame building located where the gym is until 4th grade and moved into the classroom where she presently teaches.  Colleen graduated from Washburn High School and the University of Wisconsin, River Falls. Colleen is married and has two children and will soon be a grandma!  She grew up in Washburn and attended St. Louis from first through eighth grades.   She loves teaching and reading is one of my favorite subjects.  She loves gardening and enjoys exercise. She also loves traveling and is practicing hard in Spanish Class so when she retires, she can spend part of the winter in Mexico.“I have always tried to pass on my love of reading to my students.  I use the Accelerated Reader with rewards of Scholastic Books.”


dot Deb Cline - Deb graduated from Northland College in 1982 and spent a few years substitute teaching in local schools and then was hired at St. Louis School by Fr. Slowey in 1986.  She has been teaching at St. Louis School for 23 years and enjoys going to work every day.  She received the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Award recognizing excellence in teaching.  In the fall of 2007, Deb was honored to have Bishop Peter Christensen’s visit her classroom.  She married Ron in 1982 and they have two wonderful children, Patrick, and Timothy.  Family is very important to her.  She enjoys scrapbooking, photography, and craft projects.  She also enjoys supporting the local arts by attending plays and musical events.“The students are incredible and the parents are very supportive.  I feel that my classroom has a welcoming atmosphere and I teach the whole child…intellectually, emotionally and spiritually.  My goal is to encourage your child to see God in everyone and everything, become more independent people who are polite and respectful, and to instill in them the love of learning. “


dot Colleen Bark - Colleen has been the preschool teacher at St. Louis School since it began in 1990.  Colleen has been in the Early Education Field since graduating in the program at the University of Wisconsin, Stout in 1972.  She has enjoyed being employed in Public School, Day Cares and her own private preschool in Ohio, Head Start and substituted grades EC-5.  She finds working with 3-5 year olds at St. Louis School most enjoyable.  Colleen lives in a home her family built on Nolander Road in Barksdale.  Colleen is happily married to Mike for 37 years, who works as a business instructor at WITC and they have two grown children.  They also have a calico cat named Callie and a 3 year old Schnauzer named Kipper.  Colleen enjoys spending time with her family and friends, working on home and yard projects, biking, kayaking, walking, reading, gardening, bowling, cross-country skiing, and treasure hunting when not teaching. “I love working at St. Louis School and look forward to meeting any new children and families interested in our program.  Stop by any time!”


dot Terry Ledin  -  Terry has worked for Family Forum Head Start for 17 years as a special needs assistant or a teacher assistant.  He has worked for the Washburn Cultural Center for three years doing maintenance/janitorial work.  Terry has worked for the St. Louis School and the St. Louis Church for one year doing janitorial and maintenance work. Terry was born and raised in Washburn, one of nine children of Jim Sr. and Shirley Ledin.  Terry lived for 20 years in Ashland and moved back to Washburn four years ago.  Terry is married to Jacki-Rae Ledin, who teaches Head Start and between them they have four adult children, Casie, Joray, and Stephen Ledin and Rene Sheridan.  Jacki and Terry recently opened a Bed and Breakfast in their home. Terry’s favorite pastime is collecting toy trucks and he has around 600.  He also likes to work on flower and vegetable gardens, hiking, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. “I really enjoy talking, playing with, and helping people of all ages and have friends aged one to ninety five!”


Enrichment:  St. Louis students gain an appreciation for different cultures through many enrichment activities that include the study of music, art, language and customs.  These enrichment activities enable the students to be conscious of the uniqueness in others as well as themselves.  The school provides private piano and art lessons during the school day to allow the students many opportunities to enhance their cultural experiences.
